A Life of Justice & Service.
Quazi Judge of Colombo West, Notary Public and National President of the All Ceylon YMMA Conference — four decades of devotion to law, education and the upliftment of community.
A Life in Service.
Alhaj Muhammed Amhar is an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka who serves his nation from the bench of the Quazi Court and his community from the helm of its oldest Muslim youth movement.
Born on 9 September 1962, Muhammed Shareef Muhammed Amhar built his career on an uncommon breadth of learning — a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Peradeniya, a Bachelor of Laws from the Open University of Sri Lanka, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, and professional standing as Notary Public, Commissioner for Oaths and Company Secretary. As a visiting academic at the Open University, he taught Understanding Law and the Higher Diploma in Youth Development, shaping a generation of students.
Today he presides as Quazi Judge of Colombo West and Acting Quazi Judge of Colombo South, administering Muslim family law with the fairness and compassion the office demands, while serving as General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Quazi Judges Forum. As National President of the All Ceylon YMMA Conference — the island's most respected voluntary Muslim organisation, founded in 1950 — he led its historic 75th Anniversary, calling on a new generation to embrace ethical leadership, innovation and meaningful youth engagement.
Fluent in English, Sinhala and Tamil, he is equally at home in a courtroom, a lecture hall or a village development society — a trilingual advocate once selected among the 15 best debaters from 3,000 participants in Sirasa's "Jana Asuna" national debate, competing in Sinhala though his mother tongue is Tamil.
